Domenick Guarneri, 53, of Sioux City died Monday, March 9, 1998, at his residence.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Briar Cliff College Newman-Flanagan Center, with the Rev. Brian C. Hughes, of Briar Cliff College, officiating. There will be an open visitation with the family at their home anytime, Christy, Smith and Hockenberry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Guarneri was born March 26, 1944, in Brooklyn, N.Y. the son of Dr. Victor and Amelia (Rocco) Guarneri. He graduated from Perkiomen Prep School in 1962 and from Alfred University with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. He served in the Armed Forces during the Vietnam War.

He married Judy Weinstein on November 23, 1966, in Columbus, Ga. He coached basketball and softball, but settled on coaching soccer, earning his National “C” coaching license. The couple was the founders of the Greater Sioux City Soccer Association, having coached the Sioux City Strikers U-19 and Explosion U-16 club teams. He coached West High School soccer to establishing the men’s soccer program at Briar Cliff College in 1991 and the women’s program in 1993.

He served as president of the Iowa State Youth Soccer Association from 1985 to 1989, the assistant director for the Region II Olympic Development Program from 1986 to 1989 and was presently serving as president of the Iowa Amateur Soccer Association.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Merill Guarneri-Boe and her husband Pat Boe of Strawberry Point, Iowa and Theresa (the couple were her legal guardian) and her husband Mike Magoffin of Baltimore, Md., two sons, Andrew and his wife Shannon Guarneri of Gilbert, Ariz., and Doug Ewing of Des Moines; his father of Bayside, N.Y., three brothers, Gerard and Victor, both of Bayside, N.Y. and Ralph and his wife Angela of Parkland, Fla., three sisters, Irma Musemici of Bayside, N.Y., Madeline Kronrad of Boca Raton, Fla., and Geraldine Guarneri of New Hyde Park, N.Y. and four grandchildren, Domenic and Mahogani Boe, Briley Guarneri and Sean-Patrick Magoffin.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Memorials may be directed to the Guarneri Soccer Complex at Briar Cliff College.
