Richard D. “Dick” Blessing, 69 of South Sioux City died Monday, March 9, 1998 at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dale Jirousek officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City.

Mr. Blessing was born February 15, 1929, in rural Dakota County, the son of Everett F. and Mary L. (DeGraff) Blessing. He graduated from South Sioux City High School. He attended the University of Nebraska and Wayne State College.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was employed as a bartender at various taverns in Sioux City and South Sioux City, retiring from Callahan’s.

Mr. Blessing was a member of First Lutheran Church, American Legion Hanson-Greenleaf Post and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his mother of San Jose, California, a brother and his wife, Robert and Patricia of South Sioux City, two sisters and their husbands, Virginia and Dick Hogrefe of San Jose and Elaine and Roy Paradise of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Michael Berens of Sioux City, and his special friend, Diane Riibe of South Sioux City.

Pallbearers will be Steve Patronis, Dan Greeny, Warren Jensen, Jim Meier, Gary Riibe and Ted Satlzman.
