Etta M. Plendell, 89, of Sioux City died Monday, March 9, 1998, at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Francis of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Grand Meadow Cemetery at rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday, with the family present from noon until service time, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Plendell was born September 13, 1909, in Washta, the daughter of John and Maggie (White) Dawson.

She married Charles Wood in 1927. He died in 1936.

She moved to California, where she was employed in an aircraft factory and later in a department store.

She married Jack Plendell in 1946. Following his death, she moved to Sioux City in 1988.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include two step daughters, Mildred Martindale of Oceanside, California and Betty and her husband, Ivan Donaldson of Palm Springs, California; two brothers and their wives, Melvin and Eileen Dawson and Harlan and Joyce Dawson, all of Sioux City; a sister, Anna Hall of Lincoln, Nebraska and several step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
