SIOUX CITY | Richard Neal "Rick" Byrne, 63, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, following a brief illness.

Services will be noon Monday at Heafey-Hoffman-Dworak-Cutler Funeral Home, Belair Chapel, 12100 West Center Road, in Omaha. Visitation with the family will be 11 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home. There will be a luncheon following the service.

Rick was born on April 1, 1953, in Sioux City, to parents, Neal and Norma Byrne. He attended Sioux City Public Schools until joining the U.S. Army and being shipped overseas. He was an infantry paratrooper while serving in Germany and Italy.

In April 1973, he married Kim Hansel. From this union, they had two children, Cory and Kayla. They have three wonderful grandchildren, Catie, Lexi, and Hunter.

Rick was a postman in Sioux City before moving to Omaha. From there he drove a delivery truck and recently worked for the Red Cross part-time after retiring last year.

He is survived by his wife, Kim; daughter, Kayla; grandchildren Catie, Lexi and Hunter; sisters, Patti (Richard) Sulzbach of Sioux City, and Pam (Robert) Aarsleff of Poway, Calif.; brothers, Clarence of Sioux City, Brian (Laurie) of Omaha, Robert of Sioux City, and Mike (Laurie) of Sioux City; half sisters, Donna (Jon) Johnson and Linda (Ben) Jensen, both of Sioux City; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins, who loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neal and Norma Byrne; twin sisters, Terrie Lou and Teresa Sue Byrne; and his son, Cory Byrne.
