Scott D. O'Hern, 45, of Sioux City died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital after a five-month battle with cancer.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Grace Methodist Church, Morningside Avenue, with the Rev. Jon Gaul officiating, assisted by CLS Neil Peck. Graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Scott was born on Aug. 21, 1960, in Sioux City to Patty O'Hern Harrison and the late Pat O'Hern. He attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High School in 1978. He graduated from Western Iowa Tech in 1980 with a degree in mechanical engineering. Scott was employed at Wilson Trailer Company for 10 years in drafting, inventory and sales administration. He went to work for Bankers Life and Casualty in 1990 as an insurance agent and in 1999, he joined his wife working at O'Hern Insurance Agency until his time of death.

Scott married Sally Harrington on Feb. 1, 1986, in Sioux City.

He was a member of Morningside Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Abu Bekr Shrine. He was appointed to the Divan in 2000 and was to be Potentate of Abu Bekr Shrine in 2009. He belonged to many Shrine units including the White Horse Mounted Patrol, which he joined in 1987, where he held many positions including president and captain. He was a member of the Masonic Temple Association and served as president in 2003. He was also a member of Royal Order of Jesters and Elks Club 112.

Scott enjoyed playing racquetball at the Elks Club, watching sports, being a part of a fantasy football league, attending his children's activities and spending time with his many friends.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sally; two children, Callie Jo and Kane O'Hern, both at home; his mother, Patty Harrison and stepfather, John Harrison; a brother and his wife, Rob and Connie O'Hern; a stepbrother, Eric Harrison and Heidi Hetrick; a stepsister and her husband, Chass Beving; maternal grandmother, Julia Albeck; paternal grandmother, Clara O'Hern Hummel; mother-in-law, Chris Harrington; two sisters-in-law, Holly Harrington and Kelly Nelson and her husband and dear friend, Jeff; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Pat O'Hern; paternal grandfather, Russ O'Hern; and maternal grandfather, Vic Albeck.

Pallbearers will be Kip Axthlem, Doug Marx, Scott Morehead, Jeff Nelson, Damon Lohry, Bobby Roe Jr., Shaun Sarff and Bill Thompson. Honorary pallbearers will include the White Horse Mounted Patrol and Abu Bekr Divan.
