Ruth Charlotte Hansen, 81, a lifelong Sioux City resident, died Monday, Sept. 12, 2005, at a Sioux City care center.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, with Chaplain Glen Houts officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Ruth was born Aug. 14, 1924, in Sioux City, the youngest of five children to Soren and Martha (Fosse) Hansen. She attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High School in 1942.

She worked at a bank in Minneapolis and later in Sioux City as a construction bookkeeper for "Soren Hansen and Son" prior to devoting the rest of her life to her parents and family. The last four years of her life were spent at Countryside Senior Living, where she was lovingly cared for by a wonderful staff, and by Hospice of Siouxland.

She was a member of the former North Alliance Church in Sioux City for many years. She loved her Lord and shared her faith with others. She was devoted in her love of others and was gifted with playing the piano by ear. She was generous to charitable causes for those she knew were in need. She loved them as much as they loved her.

She is survived by two nieces, Connie R. Mercer of Naselle, Wash., and Nancy J. and her husband, Phillip Wirkkala, of Naselle, Wash.; nephews, Robert "Bob" Hansen and his wife, Margaret, of Burlington, Iowa, Michael J. "Mickey" Mercer and his wife, Phyllis, of El Paso, Texas, and Terry Hansen of Sioux City; great-nieces, Jennifer Sadiq and Tara Hansen; great-nephews, Todd, Hansen, Garrick Mercer, Bjorn Mercer and Jason Hansen; two great-great-nephews, Grant and Jacob; and cousins, Torgier Laupsa, Evelyn Killmer, Ruth Jensen, Darlene Stoppel, MaryAnn Cleland and other numerous cousins in Norway.

She was preceded in death by her father, Soren H. Hansen; her mother, Martha "Fosse" Hansen; brothers, L. Humphrey, Edwin and Elmer Hansen; a sister, Signe M. Hansen; and nephew, Rick Hansen.
