Marion J. Birmingham, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at her residence under Hospice care.

Services will be 9 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Allan A. Reicks officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with a rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters of America at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Marion was born May 5, 1921, in Lake Park, Iowa, the daughter of John and Gladys (Vestrem) Stockfleth. She was raised in Lake Park and graduated from high school there. She later graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in McGregor, Iowa, obtaining her teaching degree in 1940. She also lived in California before moving to Sioux City.

She married Melvin J. Birmingham on May 6, 1948, in Sioux City. He died on April 30, 1982, in Sioux City. She taught for two years in McGregor. After moving to Sioux City, she went to work for the Midwest Commission firm at the Sioux City Stockyards. She then worked as a secretary and office manager for State Farm Insurance Agency.

She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Ave Maria Court 269 and the church sewing club. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Medical Center. Marion enjoyed playing bridge, sewing and traveling to Florida. She also enjoyed listening to music, baby sitting and being involved with her granddaughters' sports activities.

Survivors include a son, Thomas of Dania, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Joe Burkhart of Sioux City; four granddaughters, Cathy Walsh, Patty Albenesius, Julie Washpun and Kim Blankenship; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Pallbearers will be Mark Albenesius, Marty Walsh, Karl Rasmussen and Joe Burkhart.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Blessed Sacrament School Tuition Aid Program and Hospice of Siouxland.
