Marilyn Jeanne Smith, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Ralph Shorey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Marilyn was born May 31, 1928, daughter of John and Mildred (Brevold) Salsness, in Sioux City. She was raised in the Sioux City area, attended school and graduated from Central High School. She married Gene Smith in September of 1946, at Sioux City. Together they owned and operated Gene Smith Cleaners in Morningside. She attended classes at University of South Dakota and worked at New Hope in South Sioux City as a group facilitator. Gene died in April of 1999.

Marilyn was a devout Lutheran. She was very stylish and enjoyed decorating, golfing, cooking and being outside in the yard working with her hands. She loved traveling to see her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include sons: Dan and Georgeanne Smith, Meridian, Idaho; Doug and Janie Smith, Waukasha, Wis., Rusty and Nancy Smith, Middleton, Idaho, and Ron and Heidi Smith, Victoria, Minn.; daughters: Barb Burke, Sioux City; Pat and Jim Langsdale, Houston, Tex.; and Cindie Smith, Sioux City; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; a sister, Jackie Torgerson, Golden, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Smith; a grandson, Kip Smith; and three great grandchildren.
