SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Joan I. Benson, 73, of South Sioux City died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at her residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alex T. Washington officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Joan was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Sioux City, to Clarence and Blanche (Kneebone) Wittmore. She grew up and attended school in Sioux City. She worked at Interbake Foods for 36 years, retiring in 1982. She was a lifelong resident of the Sioux City area.

On May 19, 1984, she married Arthur Benson in South Sioux City.

She enjoyed gardening, outdoor activities and her cat, Ivy. She also dearly loved being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur of South Sioux City; a son and his wife, Robert and Darlene Dorr of Orange City, Iowa; two stepsons, Mark Benson of Sioux City and Troy Benson of Denver, Colo.; two granddaughters, Chandell Inlay and Abby Dorr; two grandsons, Shane Gruber and Bob Dorr Jr.; two sisters, Lucille and her husband, Ray Knudsen and June Shoemann, all of Sioux City; and a niece, Marcia Barr of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Beverly Greer in 2001 and Linda Kay Schmidt in 1966; and two brothers, Charles and Clarence Kneebone.
