Arthur W. Hawkins, 80, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at his residence following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army Reserves. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Arthur W. Hawkins was born April 24, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Alfred and Emma (Grohs) Hawkins. He was a lifetime resident of Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 to 1948.

He married Grace Osterholt on June 30, 1949, in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed for 37 years at Holtze Construction as a labor foreman until his retirement on May 1, 1987.

He was a quiet gentle man. He loved boating, fishing and the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and their lake home. But the most important thing to him was his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Hawkins of Sioux City; a son and his wife, David and Gloria Hawkins of South Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Helen and Jim Foix of Ponca, Neb., and Donna and Terry Thiele of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren, Heather, Beth, Toi, Todd, Chuck, Jenny, Sarah, Jason, Cory and Seth; several great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and two sisters, Betty Halvorson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Ellen Ogden of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, George Hawkins; a daughter-in-law, Yachiyo Hawkins; and nine brothers and sisters.
