Anita S. Norcott, 84, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2005, with her family at her side at a Sioux City hospital. She passed away due to complications after suffering a stroke.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alex Washington officiating. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. A reception will he held immediately following the service at Faith Lutheran Church.

Anita Sylvia Norcott, the daughter of Sylvia Cook Chilton and Claude Brown Chilton, was born March 5, 1921, in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1939. She graduated from Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester Olmsted, Minn., in May 1943 and received her RN degree at that time. She completed her clinical practice under the supervision of Dr. Charles Mayo of the Mayo Clinic.

She married Valentine Francis Norcott on Sept. 18, 1942, after a three-day courtship in Rochester, Minn. Mr. Norcott was the son of F. Patrick Norcott and Ann Elizabeth Hayes of Boston, Mass. The couple lived briefly in Boston and Long Island, N.Y., before settling in Sioux City. She worked at Methodist and Lutheran Hospitals in Sioux City, in obstetrics for many years. She finished her career as a school nurse with the Sioux City Public Schools.

She was blessed with an incredible intellect, a rapier wit and a phenomenal gift for conversation. She was an avid college football, tennis and golf enthusiast. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, watching sports, bird watching, spirited political debate and a good cup of coffee.

Survivors include her three children, Ann (Norcott) Brodersen of Sioux City, Mary (Norcott) and her husband, Dale Bjorkman of Sioux City and Mark Norcott of Norman, Okla.; a nephew who considered her a second mother and his wife, Jim and Lynn Moonly of Irvine, Calif.; four grandchildren and spouses, Lyn (Brodersen) and Jim Wells of Brainerd, Minn., Jenni (Parkhill) and Kim Meier of Sioux City, Andrea Norcott of Norman, Okla., and Seth Norcott of Missoula, Mont.; a sister and her husband, Janet and Norman Aunan of Atlantic, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and their spouses, Doug and Carol Aunan and Tom and Sue Aunan, all of Iowa City, Iowa, Cathy (Aunan) and John Paul of Henderson, Iowa, Barb (Aunan) Piitmann of Hancock, Iowa, and John and Monica Aunan of Waukee, Iowa; and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Val on Jan. 16, 1994 in Sioux City; a sister, Avis (Chilton) Meyer; a brother, Bill Chilton; and her parents.
