Merle A. Trapp, 76, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, from heart failure while driving down Hamilton Blvd. Thankfully, no one else was injured during the accident.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, 1915 Nebraska St., with the Rev. Roger Madden officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Merle was born Aug. 31, 1928, on the family farm in Quimby, Iowa, the son of David and Ruby Trapp. He was raised and educated in the Cherokee, Iowa, area, graduating from Grand Meadow High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country overseas in the Korean Conflict.

He married the love of his life, Janice Fulghum, on Feb. 13, 1954, in Sioux City. Soon after, they relocated to Long Beach, Calif., to begin his career as a computer analyst. Together with his wife of 52 years, they raised a family of five children. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the early 1970s, forcing him to retire at an early age. He then was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in the 1990s.

He loved sports and carried a special interest in baseball. He was a member of the Abu Bekr Shriners, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Along with taking care of his dog, Buster, his hobbies included spending time with his grandchildren, watching sports on television, gardening, working on the computer and fixing things around the house.

Survivors include his wife, Jan; two sons, Doug and Tom Trapp, both of Dallas, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Kathryn and Mike Holeman of Cave Junction, Ore. and their sons, Daryl and his wife, Crystal Boyle and their son, Austyne, Jason Boyle and his son, Jeremy, Jonathan Holeman and his daughter, Kendra, Debra and Bob Wilson of Sergeant Bluff and their children, Krystle and Alex Smith and Reese Wilson, and Erika Nazem of Dallas, Texas and her son, Nikolai Nazem; two brothers and their wives, Dean and Beverly Trapp of Roseville, Calif., and Leo and Elaine Trapp of Cherokee, Iowa; two sisters, Darlene and her husband, Dean Roberts of Victorville, Calif., and Elsie Schnieder of Appleton, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Loren and Dale Trapp; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Schnieder.

We will miss his laughter, sense of humor and guidance dearly.

Rest In Peace.
