Lt. Col. Wayne A. Farley, 91, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007.

Celebration of his life and a sharing of memories will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Northpark Recreation Room, 2525 Nebraska, St., Sioux City. All are encouraged to join.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Wayne attended the Chicago public schools and the University of Illinois. As a Lt. Col AUS, Corps of Engineers, he had served in the American, European and Pacific Theaters during World War II.

He married Edith Jean Wells in Chicago in 1946. He was a professional engineer registered in five states. In addition to having owned his consulting business in Sioux City, he was employed by the Wilsey Steel Co. and Dorhmann Construction. Prior to coming to Sioux City in 1955, he had been employed by American Bridge, Central States Bridge and H.R. Bradley. He was a resident of the NorthPark Senior Living Community.

He was active in the following organizations either on their boards or as the president, Sioux Valley Kennel Club, Sioux City Humane Society, the Business Leaders Club and the First Unitarian Church. He was passionate about animals and was a well known figure in Sioux City, training thousands of adults and children in the ways and wonders of pets over the last 60 years.

He lived a quiet, yet exemplary life. He was an inspiration to many and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his children, Peter Farley of Minneapolis and Katherine Pederson of Yellow Springs, Ohio; three grandchildren; as well as special friend, Robyn Barricks.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean.

Memorials may been established at the First Unitarian Church and the Siouxland Humane Society.
