Thomas E. "Tom" Hagerty of Vermillion, S.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church in Dakota Dunes, S.D. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home in Vermillion.

Tom was born in Sioux City on Oct. 17, 1946, to Louis and Adelaide (Barron) Hagerty. He attended Catholic schools in Sioux City until the ninth grade, then transferred to Central High School.

After one year at Iowa State University, he joined the military and was a Vietnam era veteran. After service to his country, he attended Briar Cliff College and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. He later attended the University of South Dakota and graduated with a master's degree in psychology. He lived in Vermillion for the past several years of his life.

He was a lifelong supporter of sports and music. He had many friends in the Sioux City and Vermillion areas and will be greatly missed. He had a very creative personality and wrote short stories and poetry. He was very clever and had a good wit, but he also had a mischievous side to him that manifested itself from time to time.

He is survived by his brothers and their wives, Tim and Anita Hagerty and Terry and Beverly Hagerty; and his sisters and their husbands, Trudy and Chuck Thoman and Theresa and Byron Watkins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Adelaide Hagerty.
