SERGEANT BLUFF -- Ransom R. "Ducky" Gibson Jr., 70, of Sergeant Bluff died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at his residence.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at Shepherd of the Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff, with the Rev. Timothy Schiller officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Peterson, Iowa. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

Mr. Gibson was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Ghana, Ohio, the son of Ransom Robert Gibson Sr. and Marie C. Barry. He graduated from Boulder High School in Boulder, Colo., in 1956. He served his country in the Colorado Air National Guard and attended various U.S.A.F. military schools, including air traffic control. Mr. Gibson was a retired air traffic controller. He moved to Iowa in 1993 to be near his mother and father-in-law to help care for them.

Ransom was the Little League field coordinator in Northglenn, Colo., and was vice president of Lions Club International in both Colorado and Alaska. He was a member of the American Legion, B.P.O. Elks and Fraternal Order of Moose. He enjoyed bowling, golf, gardening and crafts. He loved to camp and boat with his family and friends. He was always willing to give a hand to anyone who needed it and often donated his time for church as well as community events. He was a member of Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff.

Survivors include his wife, Diane L. (Johnson) Gibson of Sergeant Bluff; a son, Kenneth Gibson and his wife, Terry of Rockwell City, Iowa; a daughter, Jessica and her husband, Pat Kritzer of Sergeant Bluff; two children from a previous marriage; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his father; and stepfather, Jack Rushing.
