Robert Raymond "Bob" McNamara, 60, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Lawrence McCarty officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the 185th Refueling Wing. Visitation, with the family present, will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be sent online to http://www.meyerbroschapels.com">www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Robert was born March 9, 1947, in Sioux City, the son of Raymond and Arlene (Denlinger) McNamara. He attended elementary school in Danbury, Iowa, and graduated from Heelan High School with the class of 1967. He was a lifetime resident of Sioux City except his early years in Danbury. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force.

He was employed by the city of Sioux City in the Environment Services Department as maintenance personnel. Due to illness, he retired in 2004.

He was of the Catholic faith. He was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64. He had a special place in his heart for John Richter. He was also especially proud of his tractors.

Survivors include his mother, Arlene McNamara of Sioux City; a son, Bob (Karry) McNamara of Jefferson, S.D.; a daughter, Terri (Russell) Thompson of Corpus Christi, Texas; two grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph (Vickie) McNamara and Edwin (LouAnn) McNamara; five sisters, Sharon Leuenhagen, Rae Marie Pendergast, Mary (Mike) Nearman, Donna (Rusty) Giffrow and Alicia (Dave) Johnson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Jean Richter.

He was preceded in death by his father; a sister, Theresa Grosenheider; and an infant brother, Merlin McNamara.
