NORTH SIOUX CITY | Gloria Kay (Doran) Finken, 73, of North Sioux City, passed away Sunday Jan. 8, 2017, at home.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Berkemier Chapel of Christy Smith Funeral Homes, 5206 Military Road, with Chaplain Kathy Yoder officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Following services, a reception will be at the Sioux City Elks Club, 1001 Tri View Ave. Condolences may be sent at www.christysmith.com.

Gloria was born May 30, 1943, in Viborg S.D., to Theodore and Mable (Boom) Thorstensen. She attended Vermillion (S.D.) High School.

She married Gordon "Jim" Doran Sept. 4, 1959, in Phoenix, Ariz. They made their home in North Sioux City, and moved to Sioux City in 1968. Jim passed away Oct. 23, 1994.

She later married Ronald Finken Jan. 30, 1999. Ron passed away April 9, 2007.

Gloria was a stay-at-home mother until her youngest was in high school. She then worked at Inter Bake Foods, retiring after 25 years.

She was a proud member of Bakers Local 433.

Gloria enjoyed walleye fishing, and spending time with Ron and her friends at Platte Creek, S.D. She enjoyed traveling to Houston, Texas, to see her daughter Cindy, until Cindy passed away from breast cancer. She enjoyed playing cribbage and was a member of the Riverside Cribbage League. She enjoyed bowling, watching Sprint Cars, NASCAR, doing crossword puzzles, and POGO games. Her granddaughters were the love of her life.

Survivors include two sons, James (Cathy) and Donald (Kim), all of Sioux City.; two sisters, Marilys Torgersen of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Marilyn Gregoire of Vermillion; step-children, Amy (Bill) Swinehart, Christy (Scott Tonnessen) Finken, Bill (Dionne) Finken, Mike (Gail) Fitzpatrick and Julie (Lynn) Lamaack; granddaughters, Alicia, Amber and Kayla; special great-niece, Courtney; step-grandchildren, Mitzi and Cory Chapman; and others.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Jim and Ron; and her daughter, Cindy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City.
