SIOUX CITY | Ryan Paul Goertz, 38, of Minot, N.D., formerly of Sioux City, passed away on Dec. 28, 2016, at his residence from diabetic complications.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held on Jan. 2, 2017 at Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo, N.D. Burial will be in the spring in Rose Hill Cemetery, Emerson, Neb. Online guestbook available at www.boulgerfuneralhome.com.

Ryan, the son of Cheri (Fahey) and James H. Goertz, was born on Nov. 19, 1978 in Sioux City. In 1985, he moved with his family to North Dakota. He attended elementary school in Wilton, N.D. until he moved with his family to Minot in 1989. In 1997, he graduated from Bishop Ryan High School. He was united in marriage to Jessica Hoffer on Aug. 14, 1998. They later divorced.

Ryan was very active in Boy Scouts in his younger years. He was employed by a variety of jobs, including R.E.M. and most recently Ryan Chevrolet. Ryan was an avid fisherman and would take any opportunity to get near the water or on the ice. He had a deep love for his animals, especially his boxer, Tyson. He also had a colorful collection of bearded dragons and fish.

Ryan is survived by his daughter, Emily Goertz of Minot; parents, Cheri and James H Goertz of Hillsboro, N.D.; sisters, Jami (Mike) Kastning of Elk Point, S.D., and Jacque (Gerald) Erickson of Jamestown, N.D.; nieces and nephews, Julia (Alex Brown) Lovell of Fargo, Mitchell Lovell of Hillsboro, Abigail, Nora, and Patrick Kastning, all of Elk Point; and grandnephew, Oliver Brown, Fargo. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; two aunts; three uncles; and his beloved dog, Terra.
