SIOUX CITY | Louis Gene Rupp, 85, of Sioux City, died Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Jay Denne officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Louis Gene Rupp, the son of Louis and Lulu (Fixsel) Rupp, was born on Sept. 12, 1931, in Correctionville, Iowa. At a young age, Gene's family moved to Anthon, Iowa, where he attended school and graduated from Anthon High School in 1949.

Gene enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. He was a member of the 2349th Group. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Sioux City. He then attended Morningside College and the University of South Dakota.

On Nov. 17, 1956, Gene was united in marriage to Shirley A. Stading in Ponca, Neb. They had two daughters, Kim and Lori. The family made their home in Sioux City. Gene worked as a sales representative in the food business for many years.

Gene was a lifelong member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, where he helped usher and served on several committees. He was an American Legion member. Gene enjoyed yardwork, playing cards, coffee with his buddies, Morningside sports, going to the grandchildren's sports activities, and spending time with his family and friends.

Gene is survived by one daughter, Kim Donahue and husband, Tom; son-in-law, Joel Steenhoven and wife, Jill; four grandchildren, Ryan and Riley Donahue, and Lindsay and Ben Steenhoven; brother-in-law, Willis Stading and wife, Jan; special family friend, Wilma Junck; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley on Nov. 23, 2014; daughter, Lori Steenhoven on March 13, 2015; four siblings, Calvin and Richard Servis, Shirley Clark, and Maxine Sands; and special niece, Becky Clark.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Donahue, Ben Steenhoven, Rich Servis, Craig Clark, Dan Junck and Mark Walz.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor are suggested to Hospice of Siouxland.
