Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service.

George was born on Feb. 11, 1918, in Sioux City, the son of Clarence and Wilma (Sisson) Ping. He spent most of his youth in Onawa, Iowa, and graduated from the Onawa High School. He spent more than four years in the U.S. Army, serving in Alaska and the European Theater. He earned a Bronze Star for bravery among other ribbons. After his discharge, he worked on the railroad and on the river, as did many other returning troops at that time.

He graduated from National Business Training. George worked as an accountant for awhile, then in the packing-houses, retiring from Swift and Company in February of 1980 after 28 years. He also farmed near Hornick for 14 years while working for Swift.

George spent about 17 years volunteering time with the Cub and Boy Scouts, helping many boys along the way, including his son becoming an Eagle Scout. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Swift's Retirees Club and the American Legion Post in Whiting.

On March 11, 1950, he was united in marriage to Margaret Robinson, and along with her two children, they were blessed with three children. He enjoyed fishing, golf, traveling, camping and visiting with family and friends, but what he loved most was his family. He was always known to be a very dependable, kind and gentle man. George was always a really nice guy and will be remembered as such by all who knew him.

George is survived by his wife, Margaret; his children and their spouses, Chuck Robinson and Jan, Marilee Lynn and Scott and Doug Ping and Teri; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren scattered across the country; three brothers, Dick and wife, Marlene, Willard and wife, Jean and Jim; and two sister-in-laws, Mary Ping and Marge Ping.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Rodney; a daughter, Peggy, two sisters; four brothers; and a grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Siouxland. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to Hospice of Siouxland for their support and assistance during the past year.
