Helen C. Sanders, 90, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital after a short illness.

Per her wishes, there will be no services or visitation. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at St. Joseph, Mo.at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Helen was born Dec. 30, 1916 to Claude Eugene and Sallie (Morawski) Smalley in St. Joseph, Mo., where she grew up and attended school. She later moved to Texas and married Floyd M. Sanders on Jan. 14, 1941. They later moved to Dallas, Texas, Corpus Christi, Texas and they lived in Burlington, Iowa, for 10 years. They first came to Sioux City in 1956, leaving in 1968, for Kansas City, Mo., where her husband, Floyd, passed away in March of 1970. Helen returned to Sioux City in 1976, where she had resided ever since. She held various jobs in Sioux City, two of them being with K-Mart and Donnelly Marketing.

She was of the Catholic faith. Helen enjoyed the Thursday Morning Ladies Golf group at Sun Valley, traveling extensively through the Western U.S., France and Europe as well as her weekly trips to a casino with friends.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret and her husband, John R. Wyant of Sioux City, Claudia and her husband, Bob Blenderman of Sergeant Bluff and Susan Boehlje of Iowa City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jerry Wyant, Tracy Wingert, Michael Wyant, Bob Blenderman, Catherine Phillip and Mitch Blenderman; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Leonard Smalley; and a sister, Margaret Mathewson.

Memorials may be directed in Helen's name to Hospice of Siouxland.
