Lula M. "Lu" Kelly, 86, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service in Sergeant Bluff.

Lula was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Bancroft, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Elsie (Behrends) Dugan. She graduated from Burt High School in 1938. She then enrolled in a hairstyling college in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She was married to Jim Kelly in 1938 and later divorced. In 1961, she married Bill Kelly (no relation). He died Jan. 25, 1999.

She owned and operated beauty salons in Rockwell City, Iowa, and later in Estherville, Iowa and Sioux Falls, S.D. She moved to Sioux City in the early 1970s. In 1982, she retired and moved to Minneapolis. In 1989, they moved to Algona, Iowa. In early 2005, she returned to Sioux City.

She enjoyed music and going dancing, especially during the big band era.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathie Shull of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Kelly Shull, Adam Shull and Michael Shull; a brother, Wayne Dugan of Minneapolis; two nieces; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers, Ralph and Roy; her husband, Bill; and a nephew.
