Ardella Kathryn Fuhrman, 89, of Smithville, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Golden Living Center.

There will be a prayer service at the 9 a.m. church service Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Del Rapids, S.D.

Ardella K. Cluts was born May 14, 1917, on a farm in Hamlin County, S.D. Her mother was Mildred Mae Glines of Marcus, Iowa. Her father was John William Cluts of Franklin Grove, Lee County, Ill. She had three sisters, Irene, Leona and Vivian, and two brothers, George and John. Her parents were farmers living in the Vienna, S.D. area and later in town, where they owned a general store. The family (girls and mother included) supplemented their income by forming a dance band, called the Doll Cluts and the Four Melody Girls, and playing in the surrounding towns. She played the saxophone and sometimes the accordion. They were and still are a close and very loving family. She graduated from Vienna (S.D.) High School.

She married John "Jack" Frederick Fuhrman on Nov. 5, 1939, in Pipestone, Minn. After getting married, they moved to Sioux City. They were members of First United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, sang in the Chancel Choir, was active in circle, United Methodist Women and Zentic Study Club.

The couple had one son, John F. Fuhrman Jr. on Sept. 4, 1942. They also had a baby girl, La Donna Mae Fuhrman, who they lost at birth. She was employed as a sales person for Field Enterprises selling World Book Encyclopedias. She was one of their top sales persons and won numerous awards for her work. She suffered from Alzheimer's Disease in the last years of her life.

She is survived by a son and his wife, John and Karen of Weatherby Lake, Mo.; three grandchildren, John Fuhrman III and his wife, Heidi, Brad W. Fuhrman and his wife, Anna and Laura Fuhrman-Rhodes and husband, Bob; six great-grandchildren, Amanda, Steven, Elizabeth Rose, Kyle, Byron and Janine; two brothers and their wives, George and Virginia Cluts of Frankfort, S.D., and John Wm. and Barb Cluts of Tulsa, Okla.; and two sisters, Leona Hink of Lakeland, Fla., and Irene and her husband, Russell Wagner of Sioux Falls, S.D.

Memorial donations may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 19th and Nebraska Streets, Sioux City.
