Catherine C. Petersen, 76, of Sioux City died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital of complications related to bone cancer.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Leo Kostizen of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Petersen was born Jan. 8, 1926, in Brainerd, Minn., the daughter of Fred and Anna (Murphy) Hegenbart. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1943.

She married Kenneth L. Petersen on Oct. 23, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C. The couple made their home in Sioux City until moving to O'Neill, Neb., in 1959, where they owned and operated a bowling alley. They returned to Sioux City 1967, where she was employed by Townhouse Steak House until her retirement. Her husband died May 27, 1996, in Sioux City. She had been a resident of Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton for the past year.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Steven and Kathy Petersen of Sioux City, and David and Anne Petersen of Cushing, Iowa; three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Ben Pickett of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Marilyn and Larry Mlnarik of Grand Lake, Okla., and Connie and John Loffswold of Sioux City; a son-in-law, Charles Hale of Polk City, Iowa; a brother and his wife, F. Joe and Gloria Hegenbart of Sioux City; a sister, Irene Huxtable of Issaquah, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, Bob Elsberry, Chris Shook, DeAnne Anderson, Sherry Tontegode, Kelly and Todd Mlnarik, Tricia Davidson, Michael Hale, John, Jill and Jason Petersen, Sarah and Andy Loffswold and Joe and Mark Petersen; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a stepmother, Sophia Hegenbart; an infant son, Danny; a daughter, JoAnn Hale; a brother, Bill Hegenbart; a grandson, Kirk Petersen; and a great-grandson, Zachary Anderson.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
