Elsie A. Dalen, 75, of Sioux City died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Del Olivier of Augustana Lutheran Church officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Dalen was born March 4, 1927, on the family farm near Estherville, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Pauline (Hennings) Loeschen. She graduated from high school in Estherville. She moved from Denver, Colo., to Sioux City in 1967. She had been a cook at St. Joseph Hospital at one time, and more recently at Marian Health Center, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church. She collected cookbooks and enjoyed quilting. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed her time at the Senior Center.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Barbara L. and Glenn Schultz of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Bruce L. and Janet Dalen of Hercules, Calif., and Robert J. and Doyla Dalen of Nobleville, Ind.; four sisters, Louise Adams of Snyder, N.Y., Helen Newbrough of Humboldt, Iowa, Dorothy Cline and her husband, Charles of Loda, Ill., and Allie Mortvedt and her husband, Laverne of Story City, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Carl and Lorna Loeschen of Estherville, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Ryan Schultz and his wife, Megan of Sioux City and Jeffrey Schultz of Santa Rosa, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Betty Cain.
