Helmer Rosendahl, 95, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 27, 2002, at Harvest Morningside Nursing Home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Larkin Northside Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harry Walker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, with the family present 7 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. A luncheon and visitation with the family will be at Bethel Baptist Church at noon Saturday.

Helmer was born April 16, 1907, in rural Sheyenne, N.D. He attended country school near Sheyenne. He was baptized and confirmed in the Eden Lutheran Church.

On Nov. 21, 1931, he married Ethel Louise Harris in North Dakota, where they lived until moving to Sioux City in 1972. Ethel died June 12, 1991, in Sioux City. Helmer was a farmer and heavy equipment operator, building roads in North Dakota until he retired in 1972.

He enjoyed reading and was a handyman, who enjoyed helping his family with many fix-it and remodeling jobs. He could play the violin and piano by ear and he loved music and dancing.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Ward and Phyllis of Sioux City, Forrest and Rowan of New Salem, N.D., and Myron and Judie of Madison, Minn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine (Bjertness) Rosendahl; 12 brothers and sisters; an infant daughter; and a great-grandson.

Pallbearers will be Darce, Wade, Kevin, Colin and Kim Rosendahl and Tim Schwagler.
