SERGEANT BLUFF | Vitali Zhylka, 21, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, July 30, 2016, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Cherokee, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 900 Sixth Street, in Sioux City, with the Rev. Lucas Rice officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Orthodox Cemetery, Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today, with a Trisagion service at 7:30 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.

Vitali was born on April 5, 1995, in Minsk, Belarus, the son of Vladimir and Alena (Pauliushchyk) Zhylka. During 2001, the family moved to the United States. Vitali graduated in 2013 from Sergeant Bluff-Luton High School. Vitali was currently enrolled at Western Iowa Tech Community College, studying nursing.

Vitali previously worked at Fastenal and later at Unity Point-St. Luke's. He was currently employed at Earl Miller Construction, Inc.

Vitali was a member of the Siouxland Youth Hockey Association. He played hockey for many years and, most recently, volunteered to help coach the younger players. Vitali had been a volunteer member of the Sergeant Bluff Fire Department for more than four years.

Vitali is survived by his parents, Vladimir and Alena Zhylka, and his sister, Katrina Zhylka, all of Sergeant Bluff; his maternal grandparents, Viktar and Liudmila Pauliushchyk, and his paternal grandmother, Valentina Zhylka, all of Belarus; and his aunt, Maryna, and her husband, Donald Smith, and their children, Nathan and Viktoria, all of Salix, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Vladimir A. Zhylka.
