Reginald Franklyn Banks, 57, of Sioux City died Monday, May 13, 2002, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 9 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mr. Banks was born Sept. 5, 1944, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Herbert Reginald and LaVeeda (Williams) Banks. He moved to Sioux City as an infant and has lived here since. He graduated from Central High School in 1963. He then attended San Diego City College. He served in the U.S. Army for three years in Korea, achieving the rank of sergeant.

He married Victoria Bonowski on Dec. 11, 1994, in Sioux City. He was employed with United Parcel Service as a driver for 26 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Teamsters Union Local 554. He was a former member of Decatur Lodge 14 A.F. & A.M. and had served as Junior Deacon. He enjoyed chess, golf and other sports. An important part of his life was spending time with his family and attending family reunions.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Banks of Sioux City; a son, Reginald Franklin Banks Jr. of Portland Ore.; two daughters, Rhea Janene Banks of Milwaukee, Wis., and Karlee Banks of Sioux City; two stepsons, Michael and Jacob Chesher, both of Sioux City; his mother, LaVeeda Banks of Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, Royce and Ora Williams of Hercules, Calif., and Regan and Annette Banks of Manly, Iowa; a sister and her husband, LaVeeda and Roger Collier of Richmond, Calif.; his grandchildren, Rheanne Banks, Donovan Banks, NaTori Banks, Russell Banks Jr., McKayla Bertrand, Toi Tanisha Hoffman and Shaman and Rashaun; a very special loving cousin, Marilyn Voss, and her husband, Barry, of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a son, Russell Banks Sr.; his father, Herbert; and grandparents, Albert and Viola Williams.

Pallbearers will be Tony Drake, Jerry Fields, Butch Irvin, Norman Brown, Bill Rickord and Troy Thomas.
