Tammy L. Malkemus, 26, of Sioux City died Monday, May 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness from heart complications.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Malkemus was born March 8, 1976, in Sioux City, the daughter of Allan and Linda (Waldon) Christenson. She grew up in Sioux City and attended West Junior High School. She graduated from West High School in 1994. She then attended Western Iowa Tech Community College and became a dental assistant. She had been offered a police science scholarship after she graduated from high school, but she chose to become a dental assistant.

She married Zachary A. Malkemus on Sept. 21, 1996, in Sioux City. She worked as a dental assistant for various dentists in Sioux City until her heart condition forced her to retire.

She did weight lifting at West High School. She enjoyed reading and writing poems.

Survivors include her husband, Zachary of Sioux City; her parents, Allan and Linda Christenson of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Raymond and Kim Christenson of Racine, Wis.; a sister and her husband, Lisa and Mike Mehevic of Racine; her mother-in-law, Donna Malkemus of Sioux City; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
