SIOUX CITY | William F. "Bill" Schindler, 82, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd. Online condolences may be expressed at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

William F. "Bill" Schindler, the son of Frank and Erna (Boecher) Schindler, was born on Saturday, Nov. 25, 1933, in Hinton, Iowa. Bill grew up and attended country school near Hinton. He graduated from Hinton High School with the class of 1952. Following high school, he worked at Wincharger for 11 years.

On July 1, 1956, Bill was united in marriage to Barbara A. Brodersen in Coleridge, Neb. To this union three children were born, Kevin, Karen and Keith. The family made their home on an acreage south of Hinton. Bill worked at Sioux City Milk Producers for five years, then IPS (MidAmerican Energy) until retiring in January 1996. After retirement, Bill and Barbara moved to Sioux City.

Over the years, Bill enjoyed farming on the weekends which included raising a few calves. They also enjoyed going out to eat, dancing and going to the casino. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, served eight years in the National Guard and was a former member of the Eagles Club.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara of Sioux City; children, Kevin and wife, Lisa Schindler of Hinton, Karen and husband, Ray Anderson of Ponca, Neb., and Keith and wife, Camille Schindler of Hinton; six grandchildren, Jeremy and wife, Diane Schindler of Le Mars, Iowa, Alex and Elizabeth Schindler of Remsen, Iowa, Cole Barbee of Ames, Iowa, Katelyn Anderson of Ponca, Madysen Barbee and Will Schindler, both of Hinton; one brother, Walter (Arlene) Schindler of Sioux City; one sister, Emma McClain of Minneapolis; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Henry and wife, Marlene Schindler; and one brother-in-law, Delbert McClain.
