CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Beulah Jane Dunkelberger, 81, of Correctionville, died unexpectedly Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Correctionville Nursing & Rehab Center.

The body was cremated. Graveside services will be at a later time. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being completed by Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville.

Beulah was born Nov. 19, 1921, at home in Washta, Iowa, the daughter of Mearl and Margaret (Wathen) Hunter. She graduated from Washta High School in 1939.

She married Freeman Hatch and moved to Chicago, Ill. During World War II, she worked at Motorola. She later married Grover Robinson and moved to Blue Earth, Minn. Grover died in 1953.

Later, she married Selene Lighter and helped edit the Battle Creek newspaper. In 1969 she married Ben Dunkelberger, and together they operated the Correctionville Tap until Ben died in 1977. Beulah closed the business in 1984 to take care of her mother. During high school and all her life, Beulah was a gifted singer, piano player and organ player.

She was a member of American Business Women's Association and Eastern Star. For the past 20 years or more, Beulah had a special relationship with her nephew Michael's wife, Suzanne. Sue did many things for Beulah, especially in the later years when Beulah was less physically active. Beulah loved clothes and two of her favorite pastimes were when they could go to the Discovery Shop in Sioux City or when Sue and her family would bring supper to Beulah's home. Many special holidays were enjoyed by Beulah at Sue and Mike's home with all of her relatives. Beulah will be missed.

Survivors include a brother, Rodney and his wife, Martha of Correctionville; two nephews, Michael and his wife, Sue of South Sioux City, and Eric and his wife, Lisa of Federal Way, Wash.; four great-nieces and great-nephews; an uncle, Albert Hunter of Kingsley, Iowa; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; several cousins; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
