SMITHLAND, Iowa -- Donald A. Drenkhahn, 75, of Smithland died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton with the Rev. Karen Handke officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery at Danbury, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Donald Alfred Drenkhahn was born Jan. 16, 1928, at the family farm in Oto Township, the son of Martin and Frances (Kelly) Drenkhahn. He attended Bluff Center Country School and Oto Public School. Donald worked on construction and a high line crew most of his adult life until he retired. He made his home in Smithland until he entered Maple Heights Nursing Home on Aug. 24, 1999, where he resided until his death.

He attended the Smithland United Methodist Church.

Those survivors left to cherish Donald's memory include a sister, Doris Scholtes and her husband, James, of Omaha; a brother, Marvin Drenkhahn and his wife, Ellen, of Mapleton; a sister-in-law, Adeline Drenkhahn of Mapleton, and three nephews and three nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cecil in infancy and Clifford.
