SIOUX CITY | Ronald Hicks, 84, of Sioux City, joined his heavenly father Sunday, Oct. 9 2016, at home, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Sioux City. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be given at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Ronald Clifford, the son of Irene Peterson and Clifford Raymond Hicks, was born on Feb. 13, 1932, in Cherokee, Iowa. He was raised in Cherokee and graduated from Washington High School. Ronald attended Morningside College and the University of South Dakota majoring in art, which he loved. By profession, he owned an insurance agency and sold multiple lines of insurance.

In 1951, Ronald married Lavonne Pettengill. They had two children, Veronica Lee and Christopher Ken.

On Friday, Aug. 13, 1965, Ronald was united in marriage with Dianne May Dvorak. They later married for time and eternity at the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Aug. 17, 1965. They had four children, Timothy Brian, Barbara Jean, Daniel Lawrence, and Melinda Dianne.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in many capacities including being a member of the Bishoprick, High Council member, Sunday School teacher, Seminary teacher, groundskeeper, and High Priest leader.

Upon retirement, he belonged to a special group of men who met at Burger King for Sudoku. Of course all of the world's problems were resolved during these highly debated Sudoku matches. He loved to talk to people including his family, relating pearls of wisdom. Throughout his life, what Ron enjoyed most was drawing, gardening, socializing with his friends, spending time with his family, and telling stories.

Ronald is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife; children; 26 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Raymond Clifford.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Hospice of Siouxland
