SIOUX CITY | Alice M. Winneke, 99, of Sioux City, died on Oct. 11, 2016, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Grace Methodist Church, with the Rev. Harold Werley officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present starting at 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., with Chaplain Jon Moravec of Sunrise Retirement Community, all at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Alice was born Sept. 16, 1917, to Daniel E. and Mary L. (Sadler) Cooper in rural Moville, Iowa. Alice graduated from Moville High School in 1933, Wayne State Teachers College in 1938 and during her career did additional studies at Iowa State Teachers College and Morningside College. Alice taught at Castana, Iowa, Hartington, Neb., and Onawa, Iowa, prior to getting married.

She married Raymond J. Winneke on Oct. 7, 1945, in her parents' home near Moville. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1947. After World War II, Alice worked as psychometrist for the Veterans Administration in the Guidance Center at Morningside College. She returned to teaching in the early 1950s at several different schools of the Sioux City Community School District.

Alice was a member at Grace Methodist Church where she was involved with Ladies Circles, and taught Sunday school for 25 years. She was a member at Morningside Riparian Study Club, Morningside Garden club, and Morningside College Woman’s Club.

Survivors include son, Greg and his wife, Kris Winneke of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister-in-law, Helen Cooper of Sun City, Calif.; caregivers, David and Toni Cooper of Moville, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; and three brothers, Vernon and his wife, Leona Cooper, Carroll and his wife, Mona Cooper and Marvin Cooper.
