Hold Coates Rites Today

S.C. Church Singer Will Be Buried in Calvary Cemetery

Final rites for Mrs. Katherine Coates, No. 2 Carroll apartments, who died Wednesday at a Sioux City hospital following an illness of six weeks, will be held at the Cathedral of the Epiphany at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the home of Mrs. Nicholson, a sister living at 1600 Ingleside Avenue. The Larkin funeral home is in charge.

Mrs. Coates had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 32 years, and was 52 years old. She was an accomplished organist and singer. She came to Sioux City in 1895 and had made her home here since. Mrs. Coates was born in 1875 at Emmetsburg, Iowa, where she lived until she came to Sioux City.

Mrs. Coates was a member of the Auxiliary of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Auxiliary of the Brother of Railroad Conductors, the Knights and Ladies of Security and St. Monica’s guild. She attended the Cathedral of the Epiphany.

Surviving are: Four daughters, Florence, Dean and Mae and Mrs. Michael H. Kirschbaum; three sons, Edward, Jay and Stanley; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Nicholson and Mrs. Rose Dunne, and two grandchildren, all of Sioux City; and a brother, F.O. Whalen, of St. Paul, Minn. Her husband, J.J. Coates, a railroad conductor, preceded her in death two years ago.
