SIOUX CITY | Vivian Marie Johnson Velin, 92, formerly of Sioux City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 21, 2016, at her residence at Exempla Nursing Home in Arvada, Colo. Vivian slipped away peacefully of natural causes surrounded with love by family members.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29, at Morningside Assembly of God Church, 4310 Old Lakeport Road, in Sioux City. Richard Velin will officiate the service. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall where anyone wishing to share a memory of Vivian will be welcome to do so. Vivian was born to Arthur and Leila Johnson on Sept. 23, 1923, in the family farmhouse in Bronson, Iowa. Vivian graduated as valedictorian of her Bronson High School class at the young age of 16 in 1940.

She married Raymond Earl Velin in 1941 and enjoyed 55 years together. They resided at Raymond's childhood home, 1824 South Maple St. in Sioux City. After the death of her husband in 1996, she moved to Cathedral City, Calif., to be closer to family, where she lived with her son, Jack, to help him raise his two children.

Vivian was a homemaker, only seasonally working out the home in her 50s at Sioux City Stationery. She raised nine children and was a caregiver to many relatives in their final years. Vivian always demonstrated unconditional love and acceptance to all whose lives she touched.

Vivian was a member of the Assemblies of God for 76 years, where she faithfully served in many capacities.

She is survived by eight of her children, Robert (Donna) of California, James (Natasha) of Alabama, Richard (Sheryl) of Colorado, Terrill (Ronda) of Washington, Sue (Bud) Rose of Ohio, Jackie, Danette and Thomas (Teresa), all of California. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Raymond; her precious daughter, Danita Velin Truitt; and all five of her siblings.
