Donna Rae Munhofen, 83, of Sloan, Iowa passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016 peacefully surrounded by her family in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Whiting Christian Church in Whiting, Iowa with Pastor Josh Weece and Pastor Bryce McFarland, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at the church with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Donna Rae was born January 19, 1933 in Modale, Iowa the daughter of Floyd R. and Valda (Davis) Birdsall. She attended school in Mondamin and graduated from Mondamin High School in 1950. She then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska where she obtained her teaching degree.

Donna Rae and James "Donald" Munhofen were united in marriage on May 29, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Mondamin, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Scott, Barry, and Melissa.

Donna Rae taught second grade at Sloan Consolidated School for five years. She then taught pre-school in her basement of her home for around 20 years because she loved kids. She retired in 1997 from Dial America in Sergeant Bluff where she was employed in their customer service department.

Donna Rae loved ceramics, crocheting, reading, cooking, and canning. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.

Donna Rae was baptized at the Church of Christ in Mondamin, Iowa and in 1960 she transferred her membership to the Whiting Christian Church. She was very active in her church as a Sunday School teacher, women's group, Triple L, and their cradle roll. She and Donald worked with the youth group and they were very active in missionary work.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, James "Donald" Munhofen of Sloan, IA; her son, Barry James Munhofen of Sloan, IA; her daughter, Melissa (Shawn) Jones of Frisco, TX; her grandchildren, James (Fiance Raquel) Munhofen of Sloan, IA, Blake Jones of Frisco, TX, Hunter Jones of Frisco, TX, Raven (Jason) Babineaux of El Paso, TX, and Tiffany (Jason) Michaud of Chippewa Falls, WI; her great-grandchildren, Courtney, Haley, Makenzie, Charlie, and Henry; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Munhofen of Sloan, IA; her sister, Yvonne Teske of Elizabeth City, NC; her brother, Jerry (Cindy) Birdsall of Council Bluffs, IA; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Scott Munhofen; one sister, Verma (Gene) Smith; two brothers, Ronald (Les) Birdsall and Ross Birdsall; and her brother-in-law, Carrol Teske.
