Henry F. Gillet was born in Geneseo, Wyoming Co., New York, May 2, 1829, one of thirteen children born to Grove Gillet and Nancy Bedford, twelve of whom reached maturity. He came to Clinton Co., Iowa, with his parents in 1850 where he was reared on the home farm.

Mr. Gillet married Miss Sarah Sleeper in Clinton County on Christmas Day 1851. He afterward engaged in farming in Clinton County for a number of years and in 1867 he came to Woodbury County, locating first in Miller Township, where he purchased a tract of land and engaged in farming for some time. He then sold out and in 1869 secured a homestead in Wolf Creek Township which he improved. Later he sold this and bought a farm of 160 acres of raw land in Grant Township. This he placed under the plow and opened up a farm on which he made good improvements. In 1890 he rented his land and removed to Anthon, where he built a good home and retired.

In 1880 Mr. Gillet was called upon to mourn the loss of his first wife, who died August 22nd of that year. The children of that marriage included Mrs. Platt (Catherine A) Hall; Edgar K. of Anthon; Mrs. Nelson E. (Amelia) Palmer of Woodbury County; Mrs. Edwin (Antoinette) Carlin of Anthon; William living in LeMars, Iowa; Mrs. W.C. (Dora E.) Hotell (deceased 1887) and Mrs. Fred (Deborah) Horton of Sioux City. In March 1883, Mr. Gillett married Mrs. Mary (Brooks) Morey, a widow. She had four children by her first marriage: Harvey Morey of Ida County, Iowa; Mrs. T.S. (Dora) Snell of Ida Grove; Fred of Anthon; and Charles, deceased.

Mr. Gillet died at his home March 12, 1912, after several weeks of sickness. Until his last sickness he had doctored but once in his life.

Funeral services were held at the Anthon M.E. Church with Rev. Carey of Pierson officiating
