Armada "Ada" Grasma 1923 - 2016

SIOUX CITY | Armada "Ada" Grasma, 93, of Sioux City, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at a local care facility, after a lingering illness.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home.

Ada was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Little Sioux, Iowa, to Charles and Ruth (Blunt) Alton. She attended school in Little Sioux.

She met Clarence Grasma in 1938 while he was working for the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in Moorhead, Iowa. They married March 14, 1939. They made their home in Sioux City for many years.

Ada worked at a camera shop in Onawa, Iowa, for many years, where she learned the skills necessary to manage the Elko Camera Shop in Sioux City during the early 1960s. She later worked at various area businesses, including Zenith.

She was a lifelong member of Riverside United Methodist Church in Sioux City.

Ada was a library volunteer for Sioux City Elementary Schools, where she read to children. She volunteered with the Sioux City Police Blue Angels, working with women who had needs with loneliness issues. Ada loved animals and was an avid volunteer for the Sioux City Humane Society for many years.

Survivors include her son, Gary of Dakota Dunes; a brother, Eugene Alton of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Scott Grasma, Keri Leopold, Chad Grasma and Lance Grasma; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin sons, Ronald and Donald; and her sister, Janice Smith.

Memorials may be made in Armada's name to Hospice of Siouxland.
