SIOUX CITY | Sharon MarKay Johnson, 73, of Sioux City passed away from a lengthy illness Sunday, May 1, 2016, at a local hospital surrounded by her family.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sharon was born in Sioux City on July 3, 1942, the daughter of William and Beverly (Stone) Gill. She grew up in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1961.

She was married to Richard Benton and later divorced. They had two children, Robbin and Richard. Sharon married Gary Johnson in Sioux City on Feb. 23, 1979.

Sharon enjoyed watching NASCAR, old TV shows and spending time with her dog, Cookie. She looked forward to daily telephone calls from her children.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Gary in Sioux City; children, Robbin (Forrest) Norton of Oacoma, S.D., and Richard (Lori) Benton of Bellevue, Neb.; stepchildren, Lynn Johnson in Sioux City and Jerry (Coleen) Johnson in Burbank, S.D.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two grandchildren.
