SIOUX CITY | Eleanor Louise Lang Darrell, 91, of Sioux City passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at a local care facility.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Chaplain Mark Westrich will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Eleanor was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of two early-day pioneer families, Hal Herman and Anna Marie (Conniff) Lang. She was reared in Sioux City, where she attended public schools. Eleanor graduated from Gulf Park Junior College and the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va.

Eleanor was an active member of several local organizations, belonging to The Sioux City Mariners, The Rainbow Girls, The Junior League of both Sioux City and Chicago, The Chicago Travel Women's Club, The Woodbury County Genealogical Society, and a member of the board of the Castle On The Hill Committee. She was an active supporter and contributor to the Sioux City Public Museum.

Eleanor taught swimming for the local Red Cross and was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Phi Theta Kappa and was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church. She, along with her parents, belonged to the Sioux City Boat Club and the Sioux City Country Club.

Her professional work took her to Chicago, where she traveled throughout the world with Thos. Cook & Son. In her later years, she held an administrative position with Northwestern Memorial Hospital until her retirement.

In December of 1982, she married Lawrence Darrell of Chicago. Shortly thereafter, they returned to Sioux City to make their home.

The Darrells had no children. Survivors include cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
