SIOUX CITY | Mary T. Gunsch, 89, of Sioux City passed away on April 21, 2016, at a local senior care facility.

Private family graveside services will be held. Visitation with the family will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Mary was born on Dec. 21, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to Edward J. and Veronica C. (Finley) O'Brien, the second of 11 children. She grew up in Chicago, Petosky, Mich., and Yankton, S.D., where she graduated high school in 1944.

She married Roland Gunsch on Nov. 26, 1945. Roland passed away on Sept. 7, 2004, in Sioux City. Mary worked as a waitress at Sioux Harbor Truck Stop for years, as well as a couple local restaurants in Morningside. She retired from Coast to Coast Hardware Store.

Mary loved to play cards, and enjoyed playing with her kids and friends. She enjoyed her bridge groups, bowled for many years on various leagues and attended many tournaments. After she retired, she took up the game of golf, and joined leagues at Floyd Park and Green Valley. She continued to golf into her early 80s. She also loved to read, and enjoyed her large-print books when she couldn't get out much anymore.

She is survived by her children, Mike Gunsch and his wife, Mary Gay, Connie Chapman and her husband, Jeff, Donna Bradbury and her husband, Bill, Jim Gunsch, Tony Gunsch and his wife, Debbie, and John Gunsch and his wife, Jerri Hall; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland; five brothers; and one sister.
