HORNICK, Iowa | Dale E. Bakke, 72, of Hornick died Monday, April 18, 2016, at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City. Per Dale's wishes, the body was donated to the University of South Dakota for Parkinson's research.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix, Iowa, with the Rev. Jerry Feierfeil, celebrant, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Stoll, celebrant, officiating, at St. Joseph's Catholic in Salix. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa. Dale Everett was born on March 12, 1944, in Onawa, Iowa, the son of Leonard and Esther (Swan) Bakke. He grew up near Albaton, Iowa, and graduated in 1962 from Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa. Dale served with the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Dale and Mary "Dorie" Delores Beacom were united in marriage on Aug. 12, 1967, at Elk Point, S.D. The couple made their home in Sloan until 1975, when they moved to Hornick. Prior to his retirement, Dale was traveling to the East Coast working as a telecommunications fiber optic technician.

Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, farming, and was an avid Hawkeye fan. Dale loved spending time with his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dale was a member St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Salix and the American Legion Hindman Steele Post 492 of Hornick.

Survivors include his four daughters, Sherry Beacom of Sioux City, Barb (Dave) Esser of Canova, S.D., Kelly Jenkins of Sioux City, and Michelle Bakke of Sioux City; two sons, Shawn (Michon) Bakke of Carroll, Iowa, and Shane (Wendy) Bakke of Carroll; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Kay Kirkpatrick of Sloan; two brothers, Wayne (MaryAnn) Bakke of Sloan, and Tim (Cindy) Bakke of Sloan; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Esther (Swan) Bakke; his wife, Mary "Dorie" Bakke; and one daughter, Debbie Beacom.

Dale's family would like to thank everyone at the Swan House in Carroll and the Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City for the loving care Dale received.
