SIOUX CITY | Kenneth Dwaine Long, 89, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Seventh Day Adventist Church on Aspenwood St. in Sioux City. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Kenneth was born on Sept. 23, 1926, in South Sioux City, the son of Charles Edmond and Emma Jane (Beatty) Long. He was raised in South Sioux City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1944. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

On Aug. 28, 1948, he married Loraine Dorr in Franklin Park, Ill. The couple lived in Sioux City until they move to Torrance, Calif., in 1952. While in California, Kenneth work as a machinist for Cummings & Allison Co. and for Garret Air Reserve.

Kenneth was active with the Pathfinders organization for more than 50 years. He served as president and administrator for the group. The couple returned to Sioux City in 2007. He was a member and elder at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Sioux City. He loved his Nebraska Cornhuskers and he never met a stranger that didn't become a friend.

He is survived by his wife, Loraine of Sioux City; two sons, Kent and David, both of Torrance; his former daughter-in-law, Tarin Long of Torrance; three grandchildren, Darin Long of Sioux City, Danielle Long of Torrance, and Chelsea Long of Sioux City; and his brother, Charles Long of Simi Valley, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Marvin; three siblings as infants; his brothers-in-law, William Dorr, Ralph Dorr and Stanley Dorr; and his sister-in-law, June Camarigg (Basil).
