SIOUX CITY | Norma Jean Seldon, 89, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2016, at a Sioux City care facility.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Crescent Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Scott Squires officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be sent at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Norma was born March 2, 1927, on a farm in Pipestone, Minn., the daughter of Wilmer and Marion (Trigg) Clayton. She was born before the doctor could arrive. Norma graduated from Pipestone High School in 1945.

She married Samuel Seldon on Aug. 9, 1946, at Great Lakes Naval Base while Sam was on a 72-hour pass from duty. They moved to Sioux City in 1951, making their home on Sioux City's west side. Sam passed away in 2005.

Norma was an active member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church and ladies' circle, and crocheted many prayer shawls for those in need. During their earlier years, Sam and Norma were a staple at church services and events, helping to build the church community and enhance church facilities.

Norma was a devoted homemaker and loved cooking, crocheting, sewing and quilting for her family. She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always looked forward to their visits and family parties. Norma enjoyed preparing special weekly lunches for her daughters and granddaughter. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her two daughters, Susan (Bill) Jacobs of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mary Anne (Douglas) Beller of Sergeant Bluff; her sister, Betty Martin, and special niece, Karen (Rick) Lindberg, all of Sergeant Bluff; five grandchildren, David (Kylea) Jacobs, Sarah (Todd) Hoover, Melissa (Mike) McClain, Justin (Amy) Beller and Clayton Jacobs; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Jacob, Alexis, Autumn, Austin, Brayden, Brody, Lacey, Carley, Ian and Annabelle; several nieces and nephews; and her special penpal, Julie Murrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; three brothers, Charles Clayton, Clifford Clayton and Bruce Sturzl; and a sister, Mary Lou Landers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Crescent Park United Methodist Church in Norma's honor.

The family sends a special thank you to Sheila Peterson for her friendship and help during the many years.
