SIOUX CITY | Virgil L. Rice, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at home surrounded by his family.

A celebration of life will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy at 6 p.m., at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave.

Virgil was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Marcus, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Vida Rice. He was raised in Cherokee, Iowa. In 1945, Virgil joined the U.S. Navy where he served for two years. In 1950, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served until 1953.

Virgil worked several years at Wilson Trailer and Williams TV before retiring.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty; four children, Therese (Dave) Chrestensen, Gary (Ranae) Rice, Steve (Nancy) Rice and Karen (Ron) Seibold; three sisters, Ellen Henderson, Lorraine Jaminet and Veda Santos; five grandchildren, Travis (Dena) Rowley, Jessica (John) Johnson, Aaron (Amanda) Rice, Molly Rice and Stevie Rice; and two great-grandchildren, Payton Johnson and Kylee Rowley.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
