Mrs. Thomas Bowes, 78, of Oakland, California died Tuesday evening at a nursing home in Oakland after a long illness.

Mrs. Bowes, the former Nancy Barnes, was born at Sergeant Bluff, March 8, 1888 and lived in Sergeant Bluff and Sioux City until 20 years ago when she moved to Oakland. She was married to Mr. Bowes in Sergeant Bluff. He died in 1932.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Advent Church in Oakland.

Survivors include a son, Frank of Linscott, Nebr., two daughters, Miss Irene Bowes of Oakland and Mrs. Thelma Kosiba of Long Beach, California; a brother, George Barnes of Sergeant Bluff, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The body will be sent to the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.
