30 May 1943Hornick Man Is Found Dead: Wounded by Shot
The body of Earl Unkel, 42, Hornick, Iowa was found at the rear of his home at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Deputy Ray Heck and Deputy Coroner Perkins, who investigated the case, said it was a suicide.
Deputy Sheriff Heck said that Mr. Unkel had been in Hornick Saturday afternoon, left for his home about 3:30 p.m., evidently obtained a shotgun and inflicted a wound which caused his death.
Mr. Unkel had been a resident of Woodbury all his life. He had been in poor health five years.
His wife and three children survive.The body was taken to a funeral home in Hornick.
