SOUTH SIOUX CITY | Fernie (Cleofern) Behn of South Sioux City died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, after a good, long and loving life.

There will be no service in the Siouxland area.

Fernie was born in Walthill, Neb., on March 16, 1921, to Dora and Earl Howell. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1939. She worked for Sherman Produce.

Fernie will be remembered fondly by the many, many people who passed though her life and whose lives she touched. She spent almost all of her life living in the Siouxland area so there are many people who will miss her. She was known for her love of music, dancing and sense of humor.

Fernie is survived by her daughter, Sandee Hill, and her partner, Cheryl McKee; and her adopted daughter, Mary Walling. Family members include her cousins, Norma Graves, Jean Marie and Brad Moore; and a lifelong friend, Carole Zebas.

Fernie was a woman of strong character and a loving heart. She loved to sing, dance and party the night away. Her wit and sarcastic humor served her well. There is much more that can be said about Fernie and many stories to be retold, but one thing is obvious to all who have known her - she was a one-of-a-kind person. We will all remember Fernie for what she meant to each of us.
