SIOUX CITY | Gary L. "Gar" Switzer, 70, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2016, at his residence.

Per his wishes, the body will be cremated. Memorial services will be 6 p.m. Thursday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City, 4125 Orleans Ave. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, with family present at 5 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gary was born on Feb. 28, 1945, in Sioux City, the son of Carl Switzer and Phyllis Waterman. He attended East High School and joined the U.S. Navy.

Gary married Stella Rickwa on Sept. 4, 1982, in Sioux City. Gary worked for Sioux Tools for more than 20 years and later for Elastomer Engineering, retiring due to poor health.

Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his new great-grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Stella; daughters, Stephanie (Mike) Morey, Toni (Chris) Delfs, and Heather McMillin; brother, Clyde Switzer; grandchildren, Kanique, Jacob, Kimanni, Herbie, Heaven, Nevaeh, Winston, Wylee, Will, and Jojo; great-grandchild, Khaielle, all of Sioux City; sister-in-law, JoAnn (Mike) Wilcox; and numerous friends and other relatives.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Carl Switzer; mother, Phyllis Hoxie; and stepfather, Lester Hoxie.
